The Importance of Structure

Fab Four Mix Notes will have a predictable taxonomy structure and interact with inline comment threads. The importance of structure cannot be understated.

For a site like this, it is critical to set up the structure correctly from the start. This site will be thick with information and it all needs to be organized well so people can find it. We want this site to not only be informational but useful, whether you’re a recording engineer or an enthusiast Beatles fan.

Category and Tag Taxonomy

We have spent time setting up a nested category backbone so the URLs make sense to both human and machine. So you’ll find information on EMI’s REDD.37 with the structure of Studio Gear —> Consoles —> EMI REDD Consoles —> EMI REDD.37. URLs will reflect this structure.

Album details will also be structured similarly. The Abbey Road album will be found at Music —> LP —> Abbey Road.

You’ll find engineering notes for Abbey Road at: Session Documentation —> Engineering Notes —> Abbey Road. We want this site to be predictable.

We will also implement a Tag taxonomy structure will pull content together across categorical structure. You’ll find all of the content about Abbey Road with the #Abbey-Road tag… pulling together song details, engineering mix notes, gear details for the album and songs, etc.

Additional Structure

Building for this structure, we’re creating unique Post Types for Albums, Songs, Gear, Mix Notes, and more. This way information will be easily discovered in predictable templates.

The scope of this project is large, but it won’t be complete without your involvement. Each detail will have its own inline comment thread. In the future we want to further integrate more community aspects. (What community features would be important to you?)

We will closely reference each source, providing links to books, such as The Beatles’ Recording Techniques, on Amazon, PDFs and content on Archive.org, and videos on YouTube and elsewhere. You’ll also find links on our Fab Four Resources page.
